Welcome Penelope Cruz! (& Last Paris Giveaway!)

Well, the cat’s out of le sac. Actress Penelope Cruz has joined Lancôme and will be the ambassador of Trésor, our iconic fragrance. Penelope is beautiful, kind and a true artist. We are sincerely thrilled that she is now part of the brand.

We filmed the new Trésor ads in Paris this week with Mario Testino and they will debut sometime this fall. I can’t wait to see them. The shoot was a very nice experience and we were blessed with beautiful weather for all the outdoor portions. Above are some signs from the set, a sneak peek at a frame from the commercial, and a pic of me and my colleague David, the head of public relations for Lancôme International (and one of the chicest men in Paris!), on a balcony overlooking the Place de la Concorde. David’s giving his best Blue Steel there!

We have such amazing women representing the brand today: Penelope, Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Daria Werbowy, Ines Sastre, Arlenis Sosa and Elettra Wiedemann. (Not to mention Sandy Linter and Michelle Phan!) It’s really a thrill to be part of Lancôme in 2010.

Speaking of Elettra, I’m at Orly Airport outside of Paris and her Trésorin Love ad is everywhere. (I’ve been here more than SIX hours waiting for my Open Skies flight to Newark. I can understand flight delays. It’s part of life. But I can’t stand when the airline doesn’t share ANY information!)

So our last giveaway of the week: The Golden Croisette bronzer from the international summer collection, which I bought at the Paris boutique, and a new Hypnôse Precious Cells mascara, which I bought at Orly’s duty free. Both products are fab. The bronzer has three small blocks of blush, so you can customize the color. The mascara is conditioning and creates a very pretty full lash look. Leave a comment telling us which Lancôme spokesperson is your favorite and why and we’ll pick one name at random. Please post by Monday night.

Good luck and have a lovely weekend.

Macarons! Paparazzi! Alber Elbaz! Karl’s Coke! (And Another Exclusive Paris Giveaway!)

Macarons! Paparazzi! Alber Elbaz! Karls Coke! (And Another Exclusive Paris Giveaway!)
Some Paris observations:

1. Macarons are the cupcakes of Paris. But you knew this.
2. Karl Lagerfeld has his own Coca-Cola Light bottle! Look at Coco Rocha styled a la Lagerfeld. (I can’t find this bottle anywhere in Paris. It’s like a Chris Benz lipstick.)
3. I met one of my heroes today. Alber Elbaz, the designer for Lanvin. Very thrilling. If I had an unlimited fashion budget, I would wear Lanvin exclusively.
4. Our photo shoot was very interesting yesterday, as we had paparazzi to deal with! Stayed tuned for more on that subject…
5. No one walks around drinking coffee in Paris, even though a certain Seattle coffee chain is expanding here. If you’re the kind of person who walks around compulsively clutching a Starbucks cup like one of the Olsen Twins, you’ll find it’s a hard habit to break. Everyone I know in Paris has one of those Nespresso pod machines at home, or drinks his or her coffee in a cafe.
6. It’s hard to get iced coffee in this city! This is a big trend waiting to happen.

Thanks for the comments yesterday! AtelierGal, Blinky Daisy, I can’t believe I didn’t know about BB cream. Thank you for enlightening me. I asked the president of Lancome about it and she’s going to send me some of our BB cream. She thinks I’ll like it. Stay tuned. Fab Over 40, I didn’t go into Osborne & Little! I wish I had known about it. I literally stood in front of there for three hours.

Today’s giveaway? A bottle of the Nutrix Royal body oil and a Lancome deodorant. (Neither is available in the U.S.) These products will make your bathroom look chicer immediately. Did you even know Lancome makes deodorant? I didn’t. Several New York fashion editors who discovered it on trips to Paris would always ask me to bring some back for them. I finally tried it to see what the fuss was about and you know what? It’s good stuff!

Leave a comment letting us know why your bathroom or medicine cabinet needs a little injection of Lancome glamour! We’ll pick one comment at random. Please post by Friday night.

By the way, we’ll name all the Paris giveaway winners next week.

Bon chance!

Bonjour, everyone! Great entries for the Tresor in Love giveaway. Thank you! There’s still time to enter if you haven’t yet. Nancy, sadly, not much time to sit in cafes and we have a shoot everyday. But the weather is beautiful and every cafe with outdoor seating is packed. Also, Atelier Gal, I saw your question. What is BB cream?

We shot this morning at Place de Furstemberg in St. Germain. Our brilliant set director recreated a mini-flower market filled with roses, peonies, lilies and more. It was quite beautiful. (See above.) Dozens of tourists stopped to stare and take pictures. Then I ran to the Lancome boutique on Faubourg St. Honore (above, with picture of Julia Roberts in the window) to see what’s new and found lots of products we don’t have back in the U.S. I tried to buy the new Hypnose Precious Cells mascara for a blog giveaway, but it’s sold out already! Both black and brown are gone. (But they’ll be restocking soon.) What else was there? The Yayoi Kusama Juicy Tubes, which I mentioned the other day. They are adorable. I bought one set for a certain Lancome ambassadress who loves the natural formula and another set for a blog giveaway. (Shown above with full-size JT for scale!)

To enter, post whether or not you own a Juicy Tube or Tubes already. If so, what shade? Any random Juicy Tube thought is fine too! Idea for a shade, constructive criticism, all welcome. We’ll pick one comment. Please post by Thursday night.

I need to stop here because I have to run to part two of today’s shoot. (Actually, part three. A small crew went to the Eiffel Tower to film after the flower scene.) Enjoy the pictures, enter the giveaway and have a beautiful day!

I couldn’t let Earth Day pass without doing a post on our most excellent spokesmodel Elettra. As some of you might know, Elettra is not only a model but a student and a serious environmentalist. She’s studying biomedicine at the London School of Economics and was explaining her thesis to me the other day. (It has to do with global warming and farming. I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say, but it was fascinating.) The girl’s a total braniac.

And she happens to be as beautiful as she is smart, as these pictures attest. They’re from the new issue of InStyle UK. If you live in the U.K. or near an international newsstand, pick up the issue! Elettra’s definitely blessed genetically (mom is the legendarily beautiful Isabella Rossellini and dad was a model once upon a time) but she works out a lot to maintain her shape. She told InStyle that to keep her arms tone she’ll do 30 pushups at a time and 60-90 when she’s with her trainer. (Um, I can’t even do one!)

Elettra has a great charity called Just One Frickin’ Day that focuses on individual charity projects. Her current initiative is getting solar electricity panels for a hospital in Burundi, the world’s poorest country. The hospital has no electricity, so once the sun sets, doctors operate wearing miners’ helmets. Can you imagine?

To raise funds last year, Elettra got some of her designer pals like Chris Benz, Rag & Bone and Phillip Lim to design t-shirts. Anyone making a donation of a certain amount received a t-shirt. The shirts sold out, but Lancome made a small donation and got its hands on a special stash. We partnered with several of our favorite blogs on a giveaway today where you can get one of the t-shirts and one of our new Juicy Tubes 100% Natural Origin. Below is a list of the blogs. Make sure to check them out and leave a comment. You never know!

And stop by Just One Frickin’ Day to learn more about its Burundi project.

And the Winners are…?

Beauty+visual+L%27Absolu CremeDeBrillance KateWinslet And the Winners are...?bifacil And the Winners are...?
I just read all the comments from the Zac Posen/L’Absolu Rouge lipstick giveaway, and I have to say all of you are amazing. I definitely feel like I’m not doing enough to help others, so starting immediately, I’m going to try to change that.

(@DaybreaksBell, it’s a pleasure to read all the comments! We truly appreciate that people take the time to read the blog and comment. Happy early birthday, btw.)

The winner of the Zac Posen giveaway is Joan! Join me in congratulating her. And the winner of the Blush Subtil giveaway is Belinda, who’d like to try the Rose Fresque and Cedar Rose shades. (Good choice!) Congrats to Belinda too!

I’ve emailed both of you, so please check your inbox.

Speaking of winners, a few of our products have won awards recently. The Creme de Brilliance line of liquid lipsticks won an MVP Award from Redbook. That’s Kate Winslet above in the ad for Creme de Brilliance. Not sure if everyone has seen that. How gorgeous is Kate? The classic Bi-Facil eye makeup remover won a Best Beauty Buy from InStyle magazine. If you’re not familiar with these products, stop by a Lancome counter and check them out. (The PR department’s fave Creme de Brilliance shade? Exotic Orchid. It’s gorgeous!)

blush+brush Are You in the Market for a New Blush? Check Out Karla Sugars Swatches. (Giveaway Alert!)
A big merci beaucoup to Karla Sugar for her great Lancôme blush swatch posts. Karla feels our blushes are underrated and I have to agree with her. “On the list of brands with a great reputation for blush, I think Lancôme is frequently overlooked. Though I don’t have a lot of experience with their creme blush, I find their powder shades to be nuanced and lovely,” she says.

If you’re pale/fair and looking for some new blushes, check out her posts. (Does anyone know of great blush swatches for medium and dark skin tones? Please leave links in the comment field if you do. They don’t have to be Lancôme, but fab if they are!)

As a thank you to Karla, we’re doing a blush giveaway. Tell us what two Lancôme Blush Subtil powder blushes you’d like to try and leave some blush advice or a blush question. We’ll choose one person to get the two blushes of their choice plus the best blush brush on earth, Precision Cheek Brush #7. Please post by Thursday night!

Speaking of blush, here’s a little advice from our MUA Sandy Linter. People are always confused about where to apply their blush and where their cheekbones are. She said there’s one way to find out. Press your fingers into your face and feel where the cheekbone runs. For more on her sculpted cheek advice, check out her Q&A on makeup.com.

Thanks again to Karla Sugar! And welcome back from India. We’re loving all your India beauty posts.

Wow! Marie Claire Goes Makeup and Retouching Free with Jessica Simpson! And Who Won Our Bronzer & Book Mommy-to-Be Giveaway?

jessica+simpson+cover Wow! Marie Claire Goes Makeup and Retouching Free with Jessica Simpson! And Who Won Our Bronzer & Book Mommy to Be Giveaway?
Congrats to Marie Claire on a very cool cover. If you haven’t heard the news, Jessica Simpson agreed to be on the May cover (above) with NO makeup and NO retouching.

The Huffington Post is looking to drum up a little drama. They don’t believe Jessica is completely makeup free so they’re running an “is she or isn’t she” poll. From the looks of it, there’s a little concealer, a tiny bit of mascara and some cream blush going on (and they credit well-known celeb makeup artist Jeannia Robinette as part of the “grooming team”), but so what?

If you knew how much retouching goes into most magazine covers, you wouldn’t believe it. So this is pretty brave of everyone involved. Congrats to editor in chief Joanna Coles and beauty director Ying Chu. A big part of magazines is getting lost in the fantasy of fashion, beauty, models and celebrities, but it’s nice to have a dose of reality from time to time.

Tell us what you think.

And congrats to Natasha, who won our mommy-to-be giveaway! (Make sure to check out her blog, Fashionalities. It’s a lot of fun.) Natasha gets a copy of Amy Tara Koch’s “Bump It Up” pregnancy style manual and a Star Bronzer bronzing powder. Don’t forget, if you’re going to be anywhere near New York’s Upper West Side tomorrow between 5 and 7 p.m., stop by the Lancome boutique on Columbus and 69th to say hi to us and Amy. We’d love to see you!

And Lancome’s on HSN tonight, 4-5 p.m. and then 8-9 p.m. with our education vp Joan Poulton and makeup artist Robert Cook. You can check out some of our new products, including the amazing Genifique Repair night cream (wait until you see the before & after pictures) and our summer eyeshadow palette.

Happy viewing!

Lovely! Danny Roberts’ Drawings from Chris Benz Fall ’10. And Who Won the Nail Giveaway?

mashakirsanovadrawingch Lovely! Danny Roberts Drawings from Chris Benz Fall 10. And Who Won the Nail Giveaway?
Some of you might remember that one of our guests at the Chris Benz Fall 2010 show (we sponsored the makeup team, which was led by MUA Daniel Martin) was illustrator Danny Roberts. It was Danny’s first time backstage and he took pictures and did some preliminary sketches as inspiration for future drawings.

Well, he just posted two of his drawings from the show on his blog, Igor+Andre, and they’re so pretty I wanted to share them with you.

Danny is clearly blessed with a lot of talent.

Make sure to check out his blog!

And congratulations to Rebecca, who won the Aaron De Mey Le Vernis nail giveaway. Rebecca, check your inbox. Sounds like a lot of us have to spring clean our makeup collections. Maybe this weekend…
